Buying guide
Before you order a custom T-shirt: a practical checklist
Before ordering a custom T-shirt, check the shirt itself, the artwork on it, and the final purchase details. A beautiful image is only one part of the decision. This checklist walks through the choices in Inkdrop, including what to review again if you change a size, color, or quantity.
1. Confirm the shirt and fit before judging the design
Write down the product, size, color, and quantity you actually want. A size label alone is not enough to compare different shirt styles. Use the measurements for the selected product and check whether the guide describes body measurements or the garment itself. Compare like with like, using the same units.
If the guide gives garment measurements, compare them with a shirt you already enjoy wearing, following the guide’s measuring method. For a gift, asking about fit is more reliable than guessing from a photograph. Do not assume a different style will fit the same because both labels say medium.
In Inkdrop’s completed preview editor, Size guide appears when the selected catalog product has a guide. Size and color controls sit with the product options. If the information you need is missing, use Help before ordering rather than treating a rendered shirt as evidence of fit.
2. Read the artwork, then step back to the whole shirt
Read every word, including names and dates. Inspect faces, repeated shapes, image edges, and any small marks that should not be there. With AI artwork, the prompt records what you requested; the returned image is what you must proofread.
Next, look at the whole product at a normal viewing size. Does the main subject remain clear? Is the artwork on the intended print side, and does its scale suit the shirt? Check again after changing the product color: dark outlines can become difficult to see on dark fabric.
Inkdrop offers artwork settings alongside the completed product preview, as well as actions to edit artwork with AI or change the product. Fix the specific issue you see, then review the saved result before adding it to your bag. Changing a shirt color is a reason to reassess contrast, even when the artwork itself has not changed.
3. Make the background intentional
A rectangle can be the right choice for a photograph or a poster-style design. For an isolated symbol, an unexpected box around it may spoil the effect. Inspect the boundary against the actual garment color rather than relying on a white editing background.
For uploaded files, Printful recommends PNG when transparency is needed; JPEG does not preserve a transparent background. Its file guidance also calls for checking the requirements of the specific product. A file extension alone does not prove that a design has clean edges or enough detail for the intended print size.
A digital mockup helps you judge composition. It cannot establish the exact color of the finished fabric and ink. Printful’s color guidance explains that material, garment color, and printing can affect the result. If a precise physical color match is essential, do not treat a screen preview as a color proof.
4. Separate creation credits from the physical order
Inkdrop uses credits for AI generation. The printed product is a separate purchase. Check the cost displayed before another generation, then review the item price and the checkout total when you decide to buy.
Check every bag line for the selected size, color, and quantity. Two copies of one variant do not substitute for one shirt in each of two sizes. If you need different variants, confirm that the bag actually contains the intended items.
Inkdrop calculates shipping using the address and selected cart items. Changes to the bag can require fresh shipping and total calculations. After editing quantity or removing an item, finish that refresh and review the selected rate and final amount again before payment. Do not use an earlier screenshot of the total as your final budget.
5. Check the address and the deadline together
Inkdrop’s current shipping policy covers United States addresses. Check the recipient name, street, apartment or unit, city, state, and ZIP code. The policy says packages cannot be rerouted once a carrier has accepted them.
Production and shipping are separate stages. Printful describes total delivery time as including both, with timing affected by availability and destination. A faster shipping option does not remove the time needed to make the item. Read the current delivery information for your order instead of applying a general provider estimate to a specific gift.
For an event, decide what you will do if the item arrives later than hoped. If the available information does not support your deadline, ask for help before paying. A personal gift is still personal when you choose a date with enough room to receive it.
A worked example: one birthday shirt, then two
Suppose you are making a birthday shirt with a drawing of your friend’s dog and the words TRAIL BUDDY. This is an illustrative order review, not a test purchase. First, confirm the product measurements and intended size. Then read both words in the returned artwork and inspect the dog’s face.
You switch from a light shirt to navy. The dark outline now blends into the garment, so revise the contrast and inspect the updated preview. That color change did not require a new birthday idea; it required checking the same artwork on a different background.
Now you want a second shirt for yourself. Confirm each person’s size and the correct bag lines, then recalculate shipping and review the new total. Finally, check the birthday address and available delivery information. The useful habit is to repeat the affected checks whenever the order changes.
6. Know the policy before you need it
Inkdrop’s returns policy says returns for a change of mind or a sizing mistake are not generally accepted for these made-to-order items. Cancellation is generally possible only before fulfillment begins. Read the current policy before paying, especially when choosing a gift size.
If an item arrives defective or damaged, the current policy asks you to contact Inkdrop within 14 days with photos. Keep your order number and use the help or contact route so support can identify the purchase. Check the policy itself for the current remedy and instructions.
Use artwork and photos you have permission to print. A public gallery entry or an AI-generated result does not establish rights to someone else’s protected material. When the product, artwork, address, timing, and total all match your intention, you have a much firmer basis for placing the order.
